The James R. Thompson Center is a large post-modern steel and glass building designed by the famous architect, Helmut Jahn. It houses the State of Illinois government offices as well as three stories of restaurants and retail businesses.
The core of the building is a magnificent atrium that is amazing when viewed from above. Unfortunately I was not allowed to take any photos from the upper portion of the building.
In the plaza fronting the building can be found the sculpture "Monument with Standing Beast" by famous artist, Jean Dubuffet. The piece can be walked around, and through and was one of my 13 year old son's favorite pieces of art that we saw while in the city.
