The Pinnacles are one of the most photographed spots within Badlands National Park. There is a wonderful overlook here to view the striated spires.

The following excerpt is from "The WPA Guide to South Dakota":
Dillon Pass leads down into another, perhaps a more wonderful, region, the PINNACLES, where are seen likenesses of huge ancient cathedrals, turrets, spires, and altars.
This is perhaps the most photographed spot in Badlands National Park, thanks to the ethereal beauty of the place. The striated spires rise hundreds of feet from the base of the canyon up to the overlook level. When the guide was written there was actually a tourist camp at this location. What an incredible spot to camp! Now there is a parking lot with a boardwalk leading out to an overlook area. Be sure to watch children as there are many areas without guardrails and the edges of the canyon are soft and crumbly.
