This one room, storefront museum has been maintained by volunteers from Slovenian Woman's Union of America - Joliet Branch #20 since 1985. Branches and members from all over the U.S. contribute to the displays and exhibits either monetarily or with artifacts.
The artifacts currently on display range from dolls and clothing to family photographs.
The museum not only tries to preserve the Slovenian heritage here in the US, but also promotes activites (both historical and modern) in Slovenia.
Entry is free, but donations are greatly appreciated. And, of course, there is a gift shop. The items looked like they are of good quality and some are available through their on-line store.
They try to maintain normal business hours during the week, but since it is run by volunteers, that may not always be possible. Please call ahead if you really want to visit. (815) 727-1926
