The Kokosing Gap trail is a 14 mile paved trail stretching from Mt. Vernon to Danville Ohio. The trail crosses the Kokosing River several times using the original railroad bridges. Highlights along the trail is a 1940's ALCO 0-6-0 locomotive in the town of Gambier, dense forests, wetland areas, and much flora and fauna.
This trail at present is the longest paved rail-trail in the US maintained solely by volunteers and donations. It is also one of the first 500 rail trails in the U.S.
The trail is open 24/7/365, and has several stops along the way with restrooms and water. Though these facilities are closed from mid-November to mid-April. Benches are also placed along the trail about every half mile.
