By 1913 Butler was large enough to garner its own U.S. Post Office Building, a Beaux-Arts beauty.

The Butler U.S. Post Office is typical of post offices built throughout Western Pennsylvania in the early 20th century. Curiously, in the South during the same time period, post offices of this size were almost always built in conjunction with Federal Courthouses. The ones in Western Pennsylvania were not.
