In 1895, Butler attorney Levi M. Wise purchased ownership in the Evans City Times. A few years later, the newspaper’s name was changed to the Butler County Observer. It was merged with the Butler Eagle in 1903, with the Wise family becoming the sole owners. The Wise family has owned and operated the Eagle ever since, making it one of the few family-owned dailies in the country.
