The First National Bank of Iowa was actually the FIRST National Bank created after the creation of the National Banking Act of 1863. Therefore it is the FIRST National Bank in the United States.

This building houses the very first "National Bank" in the United States. The National Banking Act of 1863 was passed and on June 29th, 18863 this bank was founded, the first of the many "First National Banks".
This building is actually the third building that the bank has been housed in - all located here in on the same site on 2nd St. in downtown Davenport and the bank has merged with US Bank. Today it is the only surviving building on this block of the Davenport Central Business District, and is surrounded by parking lots.
The building, designed in the Renaissance Revival style, has beautiful detailing and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
