Local anglers tell me this is a nice lake for children and families because fishing is easy. If you are looking for a challenge however, this isn't the spot. The city keeps the lake well stocked and families use it regularly during season.

I am no fisherman. When I was a child I loved to go fishing, and while I don't have any fish stories to share about my visit to Giessing Lake, I do have one story about my visit.

While I was at Giessing Lake, 2 other parties arrived too. I visited midday, and the area was not being fished at the time. A boy and his mother were the first party to arrive. The lake is rather small and they walked the perimeter in different directions. As the woman reathed a nearby gravel path (part of Vargo Trail) she picked up some stones and skipped them across the lake.

Soon after they arrived another woman arrived with two small dogs. They were on leashes and she was walking them to take care of business. They were more interested in the lake than the business they were there to do, but she eventually got them to leave contributions. She did not clean up after them.

I am telling you about her though because as I sat there in one of the picnic shelters watching her, she was talking on the phone. Her call was dropped or disconnected several times and I thought her reactions were funny. She threw a minor tantrum each time and on the last drop she started to storm off with her dogs in tow. The funny part of the story is that one of her dogs had finally started to do it's business as she was taking off. She dragged the poor dog by the leash a foot or two before she realised what she had done.
