This monument was presented to the city of Vancouver, Washington by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society in recognition of the spirit and sacrifice shown by the valiant Medal of Honor recipients buried in the Vancouver Barracks Cemetery.
The Medal of Honor recipients were First Sargeant James C. Hill, First Sargeant Moses Williams, First Lt. William W. McCammon, and Bugler Herman Pfisterer.
