Galena is a small town located in the northwest corner of the state of Illinois. It is well known for its collection of historic architecture with 80 percent of its buildings listed on the National Historic Register.

The town of Galena is located in the northwest corner of the state of Illinois. It was a very prosperous industrial town in the 1800's but later seemed to be heading towards obscurity. However, the community has capitalized on its gorgeous collection of architecture and the town is now a popular area for tourist. A full 80 percent of the buildings in the town are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and many of the homes have become beautiful bed and breakfasts.
The coordinates for this waymark have been taken in the center of town, however be sure to venture all over the town so as not to miss some of the spectacular Victorian and Georgian mansions on the hillsides.
