The fountain was located in the east angle of insula (city block) 44. At the beginning of the 2nd century A.D. it was buried for some unknown reason and the level of the street around it was raised about 1 meter so that the fountain was no longer visible. The holes on the upper edges of the sandstone slabs held the iron handles which were anchored in the rock with lead.
