Stephens County Courthouse - Toccoa, GA - U.S. National Register of Historic Places on Waymarking.com

A neat old building that is in the process off being remodeled. There are three other waymarks at the courthouse. There are many others close by. This was used as the Stephens County court house until a new boulding was bouilt and the court was moved there. The court house was built in 1908 The time of signifigance was 1900-1924. The court house was added to the register in 1980.

It is not clear what served as Stephens County courthouse for the first three years after the county's creation. Construction of a two-story brick courthouse began in June 1907 and was completed in 1908 (see photo 1 and photo 2). This building served as Stephens County courthouse until May 2000, when the county's present courthouse opened. The old courthouse continues to be used for county office space -- but not as a courthouse.
