Long Description:
The Lowell Bridge was built in 1945 to replace an older covered bridge that was deteriorating. It was covered two years later. It's 165 foot length and 24 foot width was designed to support the heavy logging trucks of the era. It crossed the middle fork of the Willamette River. When the Dexter Dam was completed downstream in 1953, the river became a reservoir that threatened the bridge. The bridge was raised 7 feet and the bridge extended to span the reservoir. The bridge was restored in 2005 and is now an interpretive center for the area's covered bridges.
