This was the home of Cornelius Van Wyck, built ca. 1730.
During the American Revolution, it was the headquarters of Gen. Putnam and the center of a major encampment and supply depot for the north. Among those who visited were Jay, Hamilton, Washington, Von Steuben and Lafayette.
It was also the site of the mock trial of Enoch Crosby. The house is therefore the likely setting for James Fenimore Cooper's novel, "The Spy" which is based on Enoch Crosby's story.
