Douglas County has an extensive Outdoor Warning System, comprised of one hundred twenty warning sirens. They are strategically placed throughout the county. The sirens are not hard to identify. They sit on top of a 50 foot steel pole and are generally located within the public utility easements next to streets. In 2002 and 2003 Douglas County replaced all of the 20-40 year old Federal Thunderbolts and replaced them with new American Signal T-128 sirens. This conversion into the new technology allows us better outdoor coverage and a warning system that will last for years with minimal maintenance.
This and all other sirens are tested on the first Saturday of every month at 10 a.m.
