The Thomas F. Eagleton Courthouse was completed in 2000 and opened in January 2001. At 28-stories (557 feet)it is the nations second tallest courthouse, with only the Daly Center in Chicago taller. At about million square feet of space, the courthouse is the largest in the nation. The building houses three different federal courts - The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, the Eastern District of Missouri, and the Eastern District’s U.S. Bankruptcy Court. When the courthouse opened it had 25 occupied courtrooms and can expand to 49 when needed.
