One of a series of 13 towers that was built during WWII as a lookout defense system for the Atlantic Coast, this group of towers spans from MD up through the DE coast to NJ. You can see Tower #4 to N in the background of the 3rd picture. These towers are located in the Tower Road Park just south of Dewey Beach, DE. Parking is available, and costs $4 for in state/$8 for out of state during the day. (There is no charge after sundown, (5-6PM-ish), but the park does close at dark.) While Tower #3 or #4 cannot be climbed, Tower #7, near Gordon Pond in Cape Henlopen State Park has been renovated and repaired and is open to the public a few miles N near Lewes, DE.
