Doane Rock is one of the largest ice-carried boulders in Southern New England and the largest on Cape Cod. Cape Cod Massachusettes is composed almost entirely of rock debris deposited by ice age glaciers over 18,000 years ago. Most of this debris called "glacial till," consists of clay, sand, and pebbles; but the ice also deposited larger stones. Doane Rock stands 18 feet (5.5 meters) high and extends below the ground an estimated 12 feet (3.7 meters).
Doane Rock is located just of of Doane Road about one mile past the Salt Pond Visitor's Center on NPS land. Parking is available right nearby.
