Along the Rillito Riverpark are many interesting and beautiful
places but the mini Stonehenge/Sundial is one of the most
interesting and is certainly beautiful. It's similar to the Casa Rinconada kiva in Chaco Canyon, NM. Around a 50 ft circle are walls of different sizes with rectangular holes in them that direct the sun. In the center is a bronze circle with the the directions of the compass and where the sunrise and sunset will be at the solstice and equinox. On the NASS website where I found it was a real sundial is a beautiful picture of the sunrise at solstice.
There are local druids who have had ceremonies there and, since it works as both native american and european pagan, it's possible there are others. I see people sitting on the low stones and enjoying the view as people come past walking, running, biking and skating as the
riverpark is a very popular location in Tucson. It's on the riverpark between La Cholla and Flowing Wells.
It was designed by Chris Tanz and built by Paul Edwards in 1993.
