This is the best preserved Roman theater north of the Alps. It has been recently reopened after 10 years of restoration work.

At the museum across the street, you can obtain an audio guide to the theater for 5 CHF which is translated in many languages.
The theater for putting on dramatic acts (seats on one side facing a stage) was originally constructed in 70 A.D. Then in 110 A.D. it was converted into an Amphitheater (seats on all sides) and used for gladiator fights. Then in 180 A.D. it was reconverted to a theater and the amphitheater was relocated further away from the center of the city.
