On July 16, 1974 in block A the first nuclear chain reaction was introduced. Block A supplied power for the first time on August 25, 1974 to the public power grid. Nuclear start-up took place in block B on March 25, 1976. Building Block C and Block D was planed, but never realized.
Block A with a gross output of 1200 megawatts and block B with a gross output of 1300 megawatts. Both units are pressurized water reactors.
The government had decided the nationwide shutdown of all NPP in Germany. Biblis A should shut down at the end of 2009, Biblis B in 2010.
There is also a intermediate storage facility for burnt down nuclear fuel elements.
