At the corner of the Peoples Street T-Head and Shoreline Boulevard, this pavilion features a life-size, 5'8", bronze statue of Selena gazing out to Corpus Christi Bay. The statue, sculpted by Corpus artist H.W. ‘Buddy’ Tatum in 1997, was financed with private funds. The exterior walls of the pavilion are arched with colorful floral tiles, hand painted by ‘Texas children who loved Selena.’
Selena Quintanilla-Perez was named 1987 Female Vocalist of the Year by the Tejano Music Awards and awarded a 1994 Grammy for Best Mexican-American Album. She released ten albums before her death and five were released posthumously. Only twenty-three years old at the time of her death, Selena had already become an icon in Tejano music and was on the verge of crossing over into American pop. Perhaps her best known release was the ballad I Could Fall in Love.
