Since September 2003, a panoramic tower of 44 meters (about 144 feet) and 70 tons rises at the edge of the Old Rhine river (the border between France and Germany).
Three trunks of the forest of Nordnach constitute the pillars of foundation of the tower. It has the shape of an isosceles triangle, stabilized by a steel net in filigree.
Between the 3 trunks is inserted a whole of supposed smaller trunks to represent the forest in miniature.
The trunks were waterproofed in the largest reserve of pressure of the area. The tower is thus protected from the atmospheric parasites and influences. Moreover, wood is almost non flammable and it is equipped with a lightning conductor.
The staircase and the estrade are located outside, around the tower, so that the landscape can be admired constantly. Two platforms located at 30 and 35 meters (98 - 115 feet) invite the visitor to stop and benefit from the landscape.
Each turn undergoes deformations following horizontal forces. The possible oscillations felt at the time of the access to the tower do not influence of anything its static stability.
