The date of this actual sign is unknown, but the founding of this village dates to 1764, and the town green where the sign is located looks much as it did 150 years ago.

At the time, the nearest town would have been east to "T'pleton" (Templeton), but having recently moved it would probably be Winchester to the southeast.
