Great Galena Balloon Race - Galena, IL - Hot Air Balloon Festivals on Waymarking.com

This balloon race is usually scheduled over the Father's Day weekend in Galena, Illinois (barring unique quirks in the calendar).

A local hot air balloon company (Galena On The Fly) partnered with a nearby golf resort (Eagle Ridge Golf Resort) to provide a fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Corporate sponsors are also included in providing part of the fun. Not only are there the hot air balloons to see and ride, there is also dog training demonstrations, classic car show, musical entertainment, and a beer tasting fund raiser during the first evening.

While tasting the wide variety of beers Friday evening, you can sit and watch (and photograph - remember to bring your camera!) the balloons lift off for a sunset cruise only to return to show off with a "flame-up" demonstration.
