The following is an excerpt from Missouri: A Guide to the 'Show Me' State, 1941 in the St Charles section:

Blanchette Park, Randolph and Chestnut Sts., consists of 42 acres formerly known as the Fairgrounds.  Purchased by the city in 1910, the land has been equipped with soft-ball diamonds and tennis courts lighted for night play, an auditorium for  dancing and a sunken rose garden illuminated at night when the roses are in bloom.

The softball fields and tennis courts along with the auditorium called Memorial Hall remain in the park.  The sunken garden no longer is a rose garden but is beautifully landscaped with a variety of different flowers and is a quiet peaceful garden.  Near the entrance to the park a statue of Louis Blanchette, the founder of St. Charles, has been placed.
