The song lyrics for "Meet Me In St. Louis"  were written by Andrew B. Sterling and the music by Frederick Allen "Kerry" Mills and was published in 1904 to coincide with the 1904 St. Louis Worlds Fair, which was held in St. Louis's Forest Park.

The chorus of the song:

"Meet me in St. Louis, Louis,
Meet me at the fair,
Don't tell me the lights are shining
any place but there;
We will dance the Hoochee Koochee,
I will be your tootsie wootsie,
If you will meet in St. Louis, Louis,
Meet me at the fair."

The location for this waymark is the building which was the Palace of Fine Arts for the Fair.  The Palace of Fine Arts was the only building constructed for the Fair which was intended to be a permanent building. The other buildings were constructed of wood and ornamented with what was called "staff", a mixture of lime plaster and cement which contained glycerin and dextrose to which shredded hemp was added. The Palace of Fine Arts was designed by architect Cass Gilbert in a Beaux-Arts style and is constructed of stone. The construction cost of the building was $1,014,000, the most spent on any of the the buildings.   Today the building is home to the St. Louis Art Museum.
