Long Description:If you've seen the movie
Selena, you know the story. Selena
Quintanilla Perez, a budding Tejano diva, was shot by the president
of her fan club, Yolanda Salvidar. Salvidar had been stealing money
from the fanclub, and Selena had discovered her misdeeds.
According to newspaper reports, Selena was shot outside of
Saldivar's room, then ran, screaming, to the lobby of the motel.
Saldivar holed-up in her pick-up truck. The police were summoned
and Selena was taken to the hospital, where she later died.
Saldivar remained in her pick-up for nine-and-a-half hours until
police were finally able to arrest her.
Saldivar's trial was moved to Houston due to publicity in Corpus
Christi. She was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in
prison. Like other singers, Selena's musical career improved after
her death, creating a mini-industry for her family.
After Selena's death, fans would come to the motel, leaving
gifts. To discourage this practice, management has changed the room
numbers. But the motel is still open, and still publicly
accessible.
