PB0703 - MOFFIT NO 1, Oregon - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

This Reference Mark 1 for Triangulation Station MOFFIT which is located on the highest point of Moffitt Butte. The reference Mark was set by the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey in 1953 and is located about 38 feet north of the triangulation station.
Moffitt Butte was named for my great grandfather James Moffitt who homesteaded to the west on Long Prairie in 1885. The butte was originally named Moffit Butte (one t) so that is why the station is marked MOFFIT. In the late 60’s the name of the butte was corrected to Moffitt Butte.
