The following is an excerpt from Missouri: A Guide to the 'Show Me' State,
1941 in the Tour 13 Ironton section:
The Iron County Courthouse, center of town is a two-story brick structure
with Greek-Revival cornices, entrance and interior trim. Erected in 1858,
the building was used as a refuge for Union soldiers retreating before General
Price after the attach on Fort Davidson. The walls of the building still
bear the scars of Confederate gun fire.
The building continues as the courthouse for Iron County. On the grounds of
the courthouse are two Civil War cannons and markers commemorating different
events.
