Major Gen. Don Carlos Buell's Federal Army of the Ohio arrived here after marching 135 miles in 22 days from Nashville. Here it turned south, led by Brig. Gen. William Nelson's 4th Div., and marched upriver to a point opposite Pittsburg Landing. They arrived at dusk on April 6 and crossed the river to take part in the next day's counterattack.
