Natchez Trace was an indian trail that connected the southern portion of the Mississippi River to salt licks in todays central Tennessee. It was used by Mound Builders, Natchez, Choctaw, and Chickasaw Indians. When the White man arrived he also used it. In 1791 it was used as a mail route. From 1800 to about 1825 men, known as "Kaintucks", used it to return North after floating goods down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. Today, Natchez Trace Parkway, a two-lane scenic highway runs 444 miles beside this famous trail.
This Monument, placed in 1914, is located at the Alabama - Mississippi Border.
