Long Description:
The first Tacoma Narrows Bridge was the infamous "Galloping Gertie" that collapsed in 1940. The second Tacoma Narrows bridge opened on October 14, 1950, and is 5,979 feet (1822 m) long. Construction is nearly complete on the third Tacoma Narrows Bridge, currently scheduled to open on July 15, 2007.
