In the morning of January 26, 1870, the original building that was Otterbein College burned to the ground. To some it was considered a mixed blessing as the building was poorly designed, and not well liked. It was decided to construct a new building nearby, using the salvageable bricks from the original building. So began Towers Hall.
Towers Hall originally included a chapel where daily services, lectures, concerts, and plays were held for over 80 years. The chapel stopped being used in 1951 when Cowan Memorial Hall was built. The chapel was soon gutted and turned into a library. In addition Towers Hall houses several administrative offices as well as the departments of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Actuarial Science
