Burrator Dam is a dam built from massive blocks of Dartmoor Granite from local quarries. Building started in 1895 and was completed in 1898. In 1920 the dam was raised, while this was being done a suspension bridge was erected to take the traffic to and from Sheepstor. The reservoir supplies Plymouth with water.
