The Erie County Family Court presides over family court matters, such as custody of minors, protection of minors, adoptions, and paternity cases, among others.
The building was built in 2001 as a result of increasing caseloads and overcrowded courtrooms at Erie County Court. In 1997 alone, there were 32,000 cases which required 80,000 court hearings. Today Erie County Family Court is served by six Judges, seven Support Magistrates, and one Judicial Hearing Officer.
