The solitary tree growing out of a crevice in a boulder has been an object of interest since the railroads first came through here in 1867. It has been the subject of countless photographs and can be found in every postcard rack in the vicinity.
The large marker at the site tells its story:
There's an older bronze plaque set in the boulder.
The parking area at the tree is accessible from both east and westbound I-80.
