Long Description:The parking area for this trail is near the end of Sir Francis
Drake Blvd., about a 45 minute drive from the Bear Valley visitor
center. The hike, about 2.5 KM/ 1.6 miles round trip, goes out to
the headland at the southwest corner of Drake Bay and provides
spectacular views of the bay, the historic lifeboat station, the
ocean and the surf below the cliffs. Chimney Rock is a sea stack
off the point at the far end of thr trail. This is the coordinate
give as Photo 1 below. Almost every other place on the trail is a
photo point.
In winter months whales are often seen from here. Elephant seals
congregate on a beach below the point. Wildflowers are abundant in
the spring. The trail rises gradually to cross the headland but
it's an easy walk. There is no beach access here and keep in mind
that it's dangerous to approach cliff edges closely. Use caution
during inclement weather.
