On October 23, 1906, in France, the 14 Bis performed the first publicly witnessed, unaided take-off by a heavier-than-air aircraft.

The plaque reads "A just homage by the population of Sao Paulo and the Brazilian Air Force to the Father of Aviation, Marchel Do Ar Santos Dumont, who on the 23rd of October, 1906 at 16:45 in the Bagatelle air field, Paris, France took off in his 14-Bis, realizing the first flight of a heavier than air plane, projecting Brazil in the history of world aviation."
