This plaque marks the Lewisham Dutch Elm.
In the 1970s most of Britain's elms were wiped out by Dutch elm disease. This tree is still going strong alongside the little river Ravensbourne, in Ravensbourne Park between Lewisham and Catford.
I must have run past this plaque literally hundreds of times in training back in my distance running days and never noticed it.
