The building and grounds are owned by the Patterson School Foundation, which operates the nearby boarding school. In the cemetery are the graves of the Pattersons, along with the former headmaster of the school, and the grave of a Confederate general.
The site is on a lovely knoll overlooking the Yadkin River as it flows through Happy Valley.
To reach from US-321, north of Lenoir, go northeast on NC-268 approximately 3.8 miles, to the church sign and a historic marker on the left.
The Chapel of Rest is open daily during daylight hours. (Do not go after dark. The site is under observation by law enforcement.)
