According to Cary Visual Art, Inc., "This artwork commemorates the importance of Cary's Band in the history of the town. The first child with cymbals was donated by Fidelity Bank, and honors former Mayor Koka Booth (who was a long-time supporter of band activities). Other figures were made possible by proceeds from Cary Visual Art's first Art Ball."
The figures are located on the west side of the Town Hall campus, along North Academy Street, one block north of the railroad tracks in downtown Cary.
More than twenty figurative and abstract sculptures have been placed throughout the town. Look across the street, to the Chamber of Commerce building, for a polished stainless-steel "C" on a stand. To the south, at the intersection of Academy and Chatham Streets, you will see numerous figures, including one called "The Newsboy". At the nearby Amtrack station is "The Railroad Man", checking his watch to see if the train is on time.
Keep your eyes open! Art can pop up anywhere!
