General James Longstreet (January 8, 1821 - January 2, 1904) was one of the foremost Confederate generals of the American Civil War.
Longstreet's principal subordinate was General Robert E. Lee.

Longstreet was born in Edgefield, South Carolina, educated at Westover near Augusta, and appointed to West Point in 1838.
