This light marks the north side of the river entrance. The original light at this location was built in 1838, and rebuilt in 1866, 1875 and 1891. The structure prior to the present light was a large 3-story duplex dwelling attached to a tall, round stone tower. These buildings were torn down in in the 1930's, probably after the present light was erected.
The present white conical structure encased in steel plates was built in 1933 and holds a white flashing light with a focal plane 42-feet above Lake St. Clair.
