In PIONEER PARK, Meridian St. between 3rd and 4th Ave. SE, is a lifesize statue of Ezra Meeker, by Victor Alonzo Lewis. Behind the monument, ivy vines planted by Meeker drape over a shelter and fountain. Pioneer Square was donated to the city by Meeker, and the public library building occupies the site of his original home. p. 389, driving tour 2.
Pioneer Park is still a vital part of the community of Puyallup. The library has been replaced with a much grander library, but the ivy vines planted by Eliza Meeker, still stand behind the statue of Ezra Meeker.
The park is now home to the Farmers' Market, a very popular market in the region, and the public library, which replaced the former building mentioned in the excerpt. The city has filled the park with sculptures, so be sure to take some time to wander around to see them all.
