This bust of Rossini was originally sculpted in marble by Howard S. Kretschmar and was dedicated July 16, 1882. The marble bust has been replaced with a resin based replacement due to deterioration of the original.

Rossini was a noted Italian composer with a variety of music to his credit. The composed 39 operas, several sacred musical scores and a variety of chamber music. His most famous works include the opera "The Barber of Seville" and the opera "William Tell" which is mostly known now for its overture (Lone Ranger theme).
