These gates are a World War 1 Memorial at the University of Oregon. The gates lead to the baseball field (Howe Field) and were erected in 1938

The Howe Memorial Gates were installed in honor of the University of Oregon Graduates who gave their lives in the Great War. The dedication plaque reads:

SOLDIERS' MEMORIAL
THESE GATES AND ENCLOSURES
ARE DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF
THE FORTY-SEVEN UNIVERSITY OF OREGON MEN WHO DIED IN
THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY
IN 1917-1918

"THEY____GAVE THE LAST FULL
MEASURE OF DEVOTION"
