Sam Houston was born March 2, 1793 in Rockridge County, Virginia.
1809-1812 He lived with the Cherokee Indians in Virginia.
1813-1818 He served in the US Army.
1819-1822 He practiced law in Tennessee.
1819-1822 He served as a congressman.
1823-1825 He served as Governor of Tennessee.
Nov 1835 He became Major General of the Texas Army.
April 1836 He led the Texas Army to victory at the Battle of San Jacinto.
1836-1841 He was elected and served as President of the Republic of Texas.
Feb. 1846 He was elected to the U.S. Senate.
Dec 1859 He was elected Governor of Texas.
Sam Houston died July 26, 1863 near Huntsville, Texas.
