FT CRAIG REST AREA - Historical Marker - New Mexico Historical Markers on Waymarking.com

Fort Craig is on alluvial gravelly sands, derived from mountains to the west, sloping toward the Rio Grande to the east.
The Magdalena Mountains to the northwest and the San Mateo Mountains to the west are mainly thick piles of volcanic rocks.
The San Andres Mountains on the southeast horizon are of older limestones and shales.

This is always one of our stops along I-25.
As I get older I find the need of Rest Areas a little more often than usual and with 3 Geo*girls...well you know how that goes.

We had lunch here with about 100 soldiers who stopped while we were here.
GEO*girls got their first MRE ration and thought that was pretty cool to have meal ready to eat.So I explained why they do it that way for being a prepared soldier.
They were headed to advanced training at White Sands.
They were all older soldiers and many wounded as well.

We went around and thanked them all for their service to our Nation.
Told all we could about Waymarking and Use of the GPS.
Had a great chat with some of the Officers.
