The Thomas Jefferson Library is one of the libraries for the University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL). The St. Louis Mercantile Library is a subscription library which allows limited access to the public. The Mercantile Library, founded in 1848, it is the oldest library west of the Mississippi River.
